Returning your samples:

  • Sheepskin can last a lifetime and so too can our sample swatches, which is why we ask that you return them so that they can be reused.
  • All sample swatches delivered in New Zealand will come with a prepaid return courier label which you can place on the package and pop in the post.
  • For international orders, it is not feasible at this stage for us to manage sample swatch returns, so you are free to keep them.

Treated with basic care, your Sample Swatch will withstand a lifetime of use.

Our Golden Rules:

  1. Give it a shake. This will bring back the bounce to the fibre.
  2. Dry vacuum regularly with a plain suction unit. No revolving/rotating/ turbo/ beater bar attachments.
  3. Blot up spills and stains immediately, do not rub the wool pile.
  4. Avoid direct sunlight. This stops UV damage or fading of darker shaded products.

Please read our Care Instructions and Stain Removal Guide for more information.

Soft and textural, our shaggy pile is silky soft to touch.

Shaggy

Our Shaggy Wool pile celebrates the wild charm of sheepskin and is deeply satisfying to touch. It is typically sourced from a sheep that is less than 12 months old. The wool most likely has not been shorn by the farmer and still has the original soft wool tip. Usually these skins are around 40mm in fibre length. This wool is reasonably uniform as it has not endured the harsh conditions of years out in the elements. With its soft texture and depth of colour, it provides contrast and interest to interiors while making surfaces more comfortable. Pile length is typically 40-50mm.

Extra Shaggy

Deliciously wild, our extra shaggy pile exudes character.

Extra Shaggy

Extra Shaggy Wool is our most luxurious pile length. This range is a celebration of the innate characteristics of wool in its purest form - preserving the natural curl and growth of unshorn sheepskin. The pile length can vary between 60-80mm, depending on the natural growth of the fleece. Plush and silky to touch, these rugs are ideal for spaces needing texture, warmth, or an extra layer of interest.

Our colours are muted natural tones designed to fit into a variety of living spaces, so it’s hard to go wrong. The colour that will look best in your space is a personal choice, however you may want to consider: is it a warm toned or cool toned space? Do you want it to add texture or contrast? For warm spaces (think timber and creamy tones), Mt Gold, Bendigo, and Lindis are good options. For cool toned spaces (think metal, grey and blues), Matuki and Minaret are often winners. Dublin Bay is an excellent neutral tone that can fit warm or cool spaces. The colours can look very different in different spaces and lighting, so if you're unsure feel free to order from our sample library or get in touch.

Yes, we do! Please email customercare@wilsondorset.com with the colour you're after and the size, and we'll get back to you with a quote. Generally, the lead time is about six months from order confirmation.
No sorry, we only do our Floor Rugs in bespoke sizes.
Mt Gold is the best colour option if you are concerned about fading. If you’re unsure, get in touch with our friendly staff in store or contact customercare@wilsondorset.com.
Natural fibres, like sheepskin, linen, leather and cotton, will fade in direct sunlight. Plastic-based materials can be more colour-fast but, as we know, have other negative impacts. If the spot where you are considering placing your product is particularly sunny, we would suggest Mt Gold as the best colour option.
We use a variety of dyeing systems depending on the end use of the sheepskin. None of our dyeing methods use AZO dyes and we are compliant with EU Reach regulations.
Sheepskins are not bleached in the way that fabrics are bleached to achieve a white colour. We use minimal bleaching in our washing processes to protect the softness of the fibre. Our tanning process does result in a ‘whitening effect’ on the wool fibres.
